Checkmate patterns
The double bishop mate
Two bishops side by side, sweeping two neighbouring diagonals, catch a king in the corner with no square left. Different from Boden's, where the diagonals cross: here they run in parallel and the king's own pieces block what the bishops do not cover.
How to spot it
The pattern needs the king on the edge and its escape squares taken by its own pieces, which is why it turns up right after a king has been chased to h8 or a1. Two bishops working the same wing are worth keeping for exactly this reason, and trading one of them usually ends the attack.
