Checkmate patterns
The blind swine mate
Two rooks doubled on the seventh rank, mating by swinging one of them to the back rank. The name is old and unkind and refers to what the rooks do to everything on that rank on their way through.
How to spot it
Rooks on the seventh are worth more than the material they win, so the question is not whether to double them but what happens after. When their king is on the back rank behind its own pawns, look for the rook check that cannot be answered, and count perpetual check as the fallback.
