Tactics
Attraction
The opposite of deflection. Rather than pulling a defender away, you drag a piece onto a square where it is a liability: a king onto a square where a knight forks it, a queen onto a line where it is skewered. The offer is usually a piece, taken because it cannot sensibly be declined.
How to spot it
Start from the tactic you wish you had. If a knight check on that square would fork king and queen, ask what would make the king stand there. Sacrifices with check are the standard tool, because a check leaves the defender the smallest possible number of legal answers.
